last Saturday Stefanie and Wiebke have made a wonderful acquisition: artwork from Pamela Leung´s “East-West Exhibition” in Brussels “automates galerie”. (> until 22.10.2011)
a little background information here:
In Mah Jong (1989) four figures surround a table playing this traditional Chinese gambling game. Each player has their own personality, which Leung portrays by supplanting heads - a fox. a hare. a boar and an ox. This mode of representation comes directly from Chinese culture, where gods and folk characters are associated with particular animals (the Chinese horoscope is a classic example)
